Orientation Quiz: Due 01/19/01, 4 pts.
Please complete both parts of the Orientation Exercise. For Part One, copy the text of this web page into your word processor; then follow the instructions for the quiz items. Save the word processing file in Rich Text Format (*.rtf) and name it “part1.rtf” (without the quotation marks).

Create a separate file for Part Two and save that second file in Rich Text Format as "part2.rtf" (without the quotation marks).

When you have finished both parts of the quiz and saved them in separate files (part1.rtf and part2.rtf), copy the text of Part One (part1.rtf) and paste the contents into an e-mail message addressed to your instructor (kneumann@harper.cc.il.us). Then, attach Part Two as an attachment to the same e-mail message.

To repeat--submit both parts with the same e-mail message: Part One should be in the body of the e-mail message; Part Two should be attached to the message and formatted in Rich Text Format.

The points for Part One are based on accuracy and completeness; the points for Part Two are based on completeness and submitting the content as an e-mail attachment.

The quiz is due by 19 January 2001, and it is worth four points.

Part One: Course Material/Syllabus

  • List the type and number of assignments in the class, including essays, journal writing, peer response, and the like.
  • How many points are possible in the class, and what is the breakdown of points per assignment?
  • How much time per week can you expect to spend online for this class? (Not including time spent doing regular class work.)
  • What is the URL of Nicenet?
  • What is the URL of the class web site?
  • Print the plan for Week 2, our next on-campus orientation session. (You don't need to submit this to me; just bring it with you to class.)

Part Two: Writing Exercise

  • In three or four paragraphs, introduce yourself to me, your instructor. Discuss your writing and educational experience in general and your goals and expectations for this class. In particular, discuss your expectations of an online composition course, why you decided to enroll in an online composition course instead of a traditional, on-campus course, and any online courses that you've taken before. Last, please tell me if you think that you'll have any problems completing the requirements for this course.

Remember, Part Two needs to be submitted as an attachment to the e-mail message that contains Part One.
