INTRODUCTION

What is the "Developing World". What areas of the world are classified as "developing"? What criteria do geogpaphers use when they classify the regions as "developing"? These are the types of questions to be answered in the web exercise.

1. Know and understand the measures of economic development and their spatial patterns.
2. Learn and be able to appropriately use the vocabulary of economic geography listed below.
3. Apply the measures to the world's regions and countries classifying them into "more developed" and "less developed" categories.
4. Understand the problems associated with using GDP/GNP per capita as a measure of economic development and ofclassifying countries as either "more developed" or "less developed".
