Overview of Assignments

During Week Ten I'd like you to draft Project 5. Very soon you should begin conducting your interviews and gathering information for Project 7, a memo report in which you analyze your interview partner's use of business communication. As you'll see below, there is an online conference assignment regarding the kinds of information that you might like to gain from your interview sessions.

During Week Ten, there are three assignments due:

  1. Rough Draft of Project 5 (1 pt.): Saturday-Sunday, 11/03-11/04
  2. APS for Project 5 (2 pts.): Saturday-Sunday, 11/03-11/04
  3. Online/Writing Exercise 6 (2 pts.): Wednesday-Friday, 10/31-11/02
  4. Revised Draft of Project 5 (15 pts.): Saturday, 11/10 (Week Twelve)
  • For 03-04 Nov
    Two Assignments:
    • Rough Draft of Project 5
    • APS for Project 5

    1. Rough Draft of Project 5, Refusal Letter (1 pt.)
Compose a letter in response to Exercise 12 on page 208 of your textbook. Use regular e-mail to submit a rough draft of your letter to Ms. Malcolm. The draft should be in a letter format. Use either a full-block or modified-block style. Follow the examples in the book. Again, this formatting is important. So be sure that you have saved your file in Rich Text Format, which will preserve the formatting. Attach your revised project to an e-mail message to me. Be sure to fill in the "Subject" line of your e-mail message. In the body of the e-mail, be sure to put your name and to notify me that your rough draft of Project 4 is attached to the message. Please submit those drafts by 03 or 04 Nov.
    2. APS for Project 5 (2 pts.)
Use the APS Form to submit an analysis of the audience for Project 5. A couple of things to keep in mind: Make sure that you include enough detail about that audience and the context so that you have a clear sense of what happened and to whom it happened. Second, keep in mind that when you describe the format and organization of the letter you should be as complete and as specific as possible. So, for instance, just describing the format of the document as a "formal letter" is not sufficient enough to give you a clear sense of what the letter should look like or how it should be organized.

Please submit the APS Form by 03 or 04 Nov.

  • For 31 Oct-02 Nov
    Two Assignments:
    • Writing/Online Exercise 6
    • Writing/Online Exercise 7

    1. Writing/Online Exercise 6 (2 pts.)
In a paragraph or so, let's explore the context in which the interviews for Project 7 will take place. We're not looking for specific questions at this point--that's Writing/Online Exercise 7--but only some general parameters related to your understanding of the project, how the interview situation relates to that task, and so on. So, just speculate about that context.
    2. Writing/Online Exercise 7 (2 pts.)
In Writing/Online Exercise 6 we established the contexts, or general parameters, to which your interview questions for Project 7 might apply. So, let's use the discussion forum to generate lists of questions for your interview sessions. I think that you will want to go into your interview session with roughly 15-20 questions. Accordingly, we can generate those questions as a class and use whichever of each other's questions we find pertinent. I would like each person to generate at least 10 questions to post to the discussion forum. If you have all of your questions ready, then feel free to post them early.
