Lecture / Tutorial Instructions

These on-line lectures / tutorials are designed to allow you to EXPLORE a little on your own while I "guide" your explorations. In order to get the most out of these web pages, without getting lost, please review these instructions.

EXPLORE
Use the lower-right frame to change the maps. Simply lick on the title of the map you want and it should appear in the upper-right frame. It will often be necessary to go back and forth from map to map in order to understand the patterns and the relationships being discussed.

TO ENLARGE MAPS
Some of the maps will not fit in the upper-right map frame or will be too small to use properly. To enlarge the maps simply click on it with the RIGHT mouse button (McIntosh users: click and hold the mouse button down). A pop-up menu will appear. Then click on "View Image".

THE "BACK" BUTTON
Don't forget the "back" button on your browser. For example, after enlarging a map you will need to use the "back" button to return to the lecture / tutorial.

TO ENLARGE THE VIEWING SPACE ON YOUR MONITOR
1. Netscape users can enlarge the viewing space on their monitors by removing the menu bars at the top. (Other browsers probably have similar capabilities). Simply click on [Options] on the top menu bar and then click on [Show Toolbar]. Do the same for [Show Location] and for [Show Directory Buttons]. Once you do this you can still access the 'back" button by RIGHT CLICKING anywhere on the screen and the click on [Back] in the pop-up menu. (McIntosh users click anywhere and hold the mouse button down.)

2. You can also change the size of the frames. Simply move the cursor to the line dividing the frames. Your cursor will become two parallel lines ( || ). Then click and hold your mouse button (left, of course) down and move the mouse left and right, or up and down reseizing the frames.

TO MAKE A BOOK MARK OF, AND PRINTING, A SINGLE FRAME
Two of the frustrating aspects of web pages using frames are bookmarking it for future reference and printing the frames you want. To bookmark a certain frame click on the frame with the right mouse button and then click on [Add Bookmark] in the pop-up menu (Mac users: click and hold to get the pop-up menu). This will bookmark ONLY that frame so when you return to your bookmark you will not see the other frames. To print a frame: first click on the frame then click on the print button (or <File> the [Print Frame]).
