new course is designed to introduce you to the study of the
formal structures of arguments. We will do some Aristotelian

the basics of modern formal logic (propositional logic and natural
deduction). You will learn to recognize arguments, and to identify
and evaluate their structures. You will learn to translate English
into logical symbols. You will learn how to do proofs. We will
do plenty of in-class demonstration and practice.
