(late start): Enables students to recognize and evaluate rational
arguments, by analyzing types of arguments and developing tools
to test their strengths and weaknesses. We will study arguments
found in their "natural setting," such as newspaper
articles and editorials, magazine articles, and Supreme Court
opinions. The principles of deductive and inductive reasoning
will be covered as well as some very basic principles of formal
logic. Students will be encouraged to bring articles, editorials,
and other texts of interest to them for the class to analyze together.
