What is a Learning Community?

A multi-disciplinary program of study involving a cohort of students enrolled in two, three, four or five courses and a team of faculty from various disciplines. It is taught in a variety of formats (lectures, labs, workshops and seminars) with all faculty attending all parts of the program.

 

Why take a Learning Community?

Recent research studies done by the American Association of Higher Education, and the American Association of Colleges and UniversitiesAmerican Association of Community Colleges all show superior learning outcomes for students in Learning Community Classes as compared to students in the same stand alone classes.

 

The Philosophy Department offers learning communities in the fast track program combining business ethics and introduction to psychology as well as classes to fill the general education requirements.
