Week 11: 11/03-11/09
| 11/10 (Week Twelve) | 11/17 (Week Thirteen) |
Overview of Assignments

During Week Eleven I'd like you to prepare a revised draft of Project 5. Please submit that revised project at the beginning of Week Twelve, somewhere around 10-12 November. Also, this week I'd like you to participate in a couple of WebBoard discussion conferences that should help us prepare for Project 6, our Employment Project. The due date for the rough draft and APS for that project will be the beginning of Week 13 (17 November). The revised draft will be due just after Thanksgiving, on 24-25 November.

During Week Eleven, there are three assignments to work on:

  1. Revised Draft of Project 5 (15 pts.): Saturday, 11/10 (Week 12)
  2. Online/Writing Exercise 8--Resume Myths and Legends (2 pts.): Saturday, 11/10 (Week 12)
  3. Online/Writing Exercise 9--Resume Writing Web Sites (2 pts.): Saturday, 11/10 (Week 12)
  4. Rough draft of Project 6 (1 pt.): Saturday, 11/18(Week 13)
  5. APS of Project 6 (2 pts.): Saturday, 11/18 (Week 13)
  • For 10 Nov
    Three Assignments:
    • Revised Draft of Project 5 (15 pts.)
    • Writing/Online Exercise 8 (2 pts.)
    • Writing/Online Exercise 9 (2 pts.)

    1. Revised Draft of Project 5 (15 pts.)
Use regular e-mail to submit your revised draft of your letter to Ms. Malcolm. Be sure that you have saved your file in Rich Text Format, which will preserve the formatting. Attach your revised project to an e-mail message to me. Be sure to fill in the "Subject" line of your e-mail message. In the body of the e-mail, be sure to put your name and to notify me that your revised draft of Project 5 is attached to the message. Please submit those drafts by 10 or 11 Nov.
    2. Writing/Online Exercise 8: Resume Myths and Legends (2 pts.)
Let's share some "myths and legends" about the resume process, such as the warnings about multiple-page resumes and the like. Also, you might speculate on submitting resumes and cover letters from a job-search web site, which has become an increasingly important and complex concern for professionals. Some of you, as I have, might have seen such resumes. (Some of you might have experiences with, as I have, organizations that require a double-submission of resumes: one copy submitted electronically through a web-based application and another print-based copy submitted through postal mail.) Share your stories. These are usually quite fun, so take it in that spirit. (Here's another: I once heard a "resume-writing gurus" tell people to use colored paper so that their documents would stand out in the crowd.) Please post your response by 10 November.

    3. Writing/Online Exercise 9: Web Research on Resume-Writing Web Sites (2 pts.)
Search the web for a web site that offers information regarding writing employment documents, such as resumes and cover letters. You might have to look at three or four sites to find one that offers useful and valuable information.

Then, write a summary of the web site. Be sure to include the URL of the site in your summary. Your summary should be no shorter than one paragraph, but it should summarize the web site, not explain everything in it.

Please post those summaries by 10 November.

  • For 17 Nov
    Two Assignments:

    1. Rough Draft of Employment (1 pt.)
Use regular e-mail to submit a rough draft of your Project 6. Be sure that you have saved your file in Rich Text Format, which will preserve the formatting. Attach your draft to an e-mail message to me. Be sure to fill in the "Subject" line of your e-mail message. In the body of the e-mail, be sure to put your name and to notify me that your rough draft of Project 6 is attached to the message. Please submit those drafts by Saturday, 17 November.
    2. APS for Project 6 (2 pts.)
Complete an Audience Profile Sheet for Project 7. Keep in mind that I do not know the audience of the project. Also, your APS should also document the structure and organization of your documents, as well as the different font sizes and faces used. Documenting those typographical conventions makes it easier for you to generate subsequent versions of your employment documents
