E130 Project 3: A Letter Granting a Request or Adjustment (10 pts.) |
Project Overview
The task for this project is to compose a letter of adjustment. The details of that letter are in Exercise 11 on page 154 of your textbook. Your Audience Profile Sheet should describe and analyze the audience, the format of the letter, and the purpose of the task. We will also have an online discussion in which we analyze the audience, purpose, tone, and structure of the letter. One goal of this project is to begin working with a basic structure for business letters that respond to a particular request or that themselves make a request. We will continue this work in Projects 4 and 5, and each of the three projects (Projects 4-6) will be addressed to three different audiences and address three different types of request. This project is a formal business letter, which means that we will also examine the formats of two common types of business letters: the full block and modified block formats. An additional goal of this project is to use examine ways of responding to a request (in this case a request motivated by a negative experience), including the tone that a writer would use in responding to a given audience. The objective is to analyze the audience carefully in order to determine what kind of tone, style, and word choice would be appropriate for both the audience and purpose. Project Due Dates
Project Format Formal Letter Project Description Compose a letter that grants the customer's request, provides a concise explanation of the problem, and attempts to re-establish goodwill. You will need to construct an APS that describes fully the audience of the letter, the purpose of the letter, the format of the letter, and so on. Last, format is very important in this exercise. It is a formal letter, so you should use either a full-block or modified-block format. Examples of both are in your course text. (Refer to the index for exact pages.) |
