E130 Project 1: Informal Self-Report/Business Writing
Definition (6 pts.)
Project Overview/Description:
There are four areas that I would like you to address in this introductory project of 1-2 pages. First, write an informal description of yourself as a writer, your experiences with writing in a business environment (if any), and your goals for the class. Second, develop a working definition of "business writing" and identify some current issues in business about which employees should be concerned.

In the first part of your your self-report, describe your experience with writing in general and with writing in a business culture in particular. Generalize that experience to some comments about the nature of writing in a business culture (for example, given your experience, what might one mean by the "business culture"?). Also, describe your goals as a business writer and how those goals might be achieved in a business writing classroom.

In the second part of the report, and given all of the above and the discussion conference on the topic, develop a working definition of "business writing" and identify some issues that are of current concern to employees, even if they are not major concerns for employers. (Sometimes, what is important for one group is not recognized as such by the other.)

Your project should take the form of a memo to me.
