Harper Technical Writing
E103 Project 3: Technical Description Project (15 pts.)
Project Overview/Description
For this project, you will describe a computer component, such as an optical mouse, a modem, or some similar component. Or, you may choose to describe a component from a field with which you are familiar or in which you work. The component should not be a simple one, but it need not be extremely complex. You will need to clear your topic with me, so contact me as soon as you have some ideas in mind. (If you are absolutely stumped, then let me know that, and I will make some suggestions.) You may also choose to describe a complex process. This often is a trickier task for beginning technical writers because you must keep in mind that your goal in this exercise is not to explain that process, but to describe it. (Hint: If you are not clear about the differences between describing a process and explaining one, then it would be wise to choose a computer component, or some similarly complex device, to use as a topic for this project.)
